How to Make Money with Paid Surveys

With the economy being so weak and so many folks out of work, a lot of places have been pushing paid surveys as a way of making a little extra money on the side. Unfortunately, this just isn’t possible. While participating in focus groups and paid surveys can bring in a little extra income, it’s not a gold mine. You won’t be able to turn surveys and focus groups into something that will make the rent payments or the utility bill. If anyone says that’s possible, they’re not being entirely truthful with you.

That said, you can earn a little supplemental income off surveys in your spare time. It’ll be a few dollars here or there but when times are tough, every little bit helps to get your head above water. As long as you’re honest with yourself and understand that it is what it is, I think you’ll find that filling out surveys is a good use of your time.

Never Pay Them

Never pay to join a survey site. If they ask you to pay to apply, run away. They are running a scam and they should be reported to the BBB. Survey sites pay YOU, not the other way around. Some scam sites will disguise this by calling it shipping and handling on sample products or maybe just a “processing fee.” Whatever you do, never ever send money.

For extra protection, I never give my bank information and opt for paper check payments. Most of the companies are legitimate market research companies, you never know when one might sneak through and who knows what they’ll do with your bank information.

Best Survey Sites

My two personal favorites are Opinion Outpost and NPD Global Survey. Both are online arms of much larger market research firms with decades of experience in the business. Opinion Outpost is owned by Opinionology, formed 1987, and NPD Global Survey is owned by NPD Survey Group, founded in 1967.

Another great survey site, which is usually closed, is Pinecone Research. Every so often they open up their rolls for applicants but that hasn’t happened in quite some time.

Finally, what I like the most about surveys is how quickly you can complete one. Most surveys take five or ten minutes to complete, which is short enough that you can knock one out if you’re waiting for something else to happen (say you’re ten minutes from dinner being ready or five minutes from leaving the house). I like to queue them up and just complete them when I know I have a few minutes of down time.

Netflix Free Trial Promotion Coupon

I absolutely love Netflix. Most people know it as the company that sends you DVDs to watch but I love it because I can watch almost any television show streaming off their site or on my XBox360 for less than ten bucks a month. I’ve watched entire series of shows from Nip/Tuck to Arrested Development to Californication to Friday Night Lights, all with one monthly fee. There simply is no other services that lets me watch so many shows while paying so little. Their library of instant streaming content is absolutely astounding.

Netflix offers a four week trial that lets you borrow one movie disc and gives you access to their entire library of streaming content.

Instant streaming content is the crown jewel in Netflix’s offering and the reason why I have a subscription to the service. For pennies each day, you get access to a tremendous library of movies and television shows instantly available to your computer, XBox360, Wii, or one of several Internet-enabled console devices. There is absolutely no limit to how many hours of content you can watch during a month, it’s a veritable buffet of movies and TV. Remember an old television series that you never finished? How about a movie that you weren’t sure if you’d like and passed while it was in the theaters? Probably available instantly.

Besides that, the mailed DVD service is fast too. I use the one-disc out plan and it takes, on average, two days to get a disc after I mail one out. I watch them at my leisure, usually infrequently, but I’m able to get the ones I want quickly without much waiting. I’ve always wondered how they mail discs out so quickly and it has to do with their incredible distribution (it’s amazing how quickly they open and stuff envelopes):

Netflix is definitely worth checking out, especially at such an affordable price.

NPD Global Survey Review

NPD Survey Group was founded in 1967 and is one of today’s leading global providers of market research data to Fortune 500 companies. They are one of the ten largest market research firms and they have offices and affiliates in thirty-three countries. They started going only in 1995 with online paid surveys and NPD Online Research is the company’s branch associated with those surveys. They collect data from point of sale purchases from retailers and consumer data from the NPD Research team, which you can join for a chance to win prizes:

As a member of our online research community, you’ll make a difference by completing quick, fun surveys about the products you buy, services you use, stores you shop in, and much more. We’ll merge your opinions with those of other panelists, and your combined input often reaches the desks of Fortune 500 executives and is regularly quotes by major media outlets.

NPD covers a wide range of industries, so whether you’re interested in green technology or green beans, video games or vacuums, we’re interested in what you think. Your opinions matter, and taking part in our research is the best way to make sure you’re heard!

The sign up process also acts as your “profile creation” step, with NPD asking you questions about you and your household. You’ll then be asked to fill out one survey, you choose the topic, and your account is activated. When you answer surveys, you’ll be given points which you can use to enter sweepstakes for prizes like $500 cash and a 7 day trip for two. Plus, you get an entry into an automatic monthly drawing of one of five $1,000 cash prizes.

The surveys are brief, the prizes are pretty spectacular and the group is 100% completely free to join.

Opinion Outpost Review

Opinion Outpost is one of the few legitimate survey sites out there that is limited to adults 18 and over. I’ve seen a lot of survey sites out there that make promises of how many surveys you’ll get, how much money you can make, but Opinion Outpost is the real deal. Like any legitimate survey site, it’s absolutely free to join and you can anywhere from $1 to $10 for filing out a survey. If you complete your profile and remain active on the site, you can get a ton of surveys each month.

You can sign up for
Opinion Outpost here.

Once you get past the hokey western theme, you’ll find a site, and a company, that is legitimately one of the best survey sites available. Opinion Outpost is owned by Opinionology, formerly Western Wats (hence the western theme), a market research company that sends out millions of surveys each year and one of the leaders in market research.
